In a country with 16 maternal deaths every day, Ugandan women face a 1 in 22 risk of dying during childbirth. No woman or child should die from preventable causes during birth.


At Shanti, we work to eliminate preventable maternal death with a care model that is:

With one payment of 10,000 Ugandan Shillings (about $2.65 USD), women have access to all of our Birth House services:

  • Antenatal check ups and health education
  • STI, HIV, and onsite laboratory testing for mothers and their partners
  • Midwife supported birth services and postpartum care
  • Optional doula care during births
  • Access to emergency transport for referrals
  • Postpartum home visits from a Village Health Worker
  • Breastfeeding support and education
  • Well baby check ups and infant immunizations up to 1 year
  • Family planning education, counseling and delivery
  • Nutritional and gardening workshops
  • Weekly prenatal yoga classes
  • Acupuncture
