In Ugandan culture, music is an essential ingredient of everyday life, even in birth. In the otherwise quiet village of Nsaasi, in the central region of Uganda, East Africa, the beating of drums can often be heard marking the celebration of a new life, or two! There is no better way to support the Shanti Uganda Birth House and the many lives it brings forth than through joining us in an evening of music and mingle!

This benefit concert will bring together a much-anticipated blend of local Vancouver artists for a night of song in support of the Shanti Uganda Birth House.

Performances by:

Jasper Sloan Yip

Hannah Epperson

Buckman Coe

Ashley Pitre

and more…..

The Shanti Uganda Birth House, affectionately referred to locally as The Three Thousand for its modest service fees, is a solar-powered off-the-grid maternity and community centre serving the tightly knit population of Nsaasi Village and the surrounding districts since 2010. A team of passionate Ugandan midwives and support staff have facilitated 1, 796 prenatal appointments, treated over 150 babies for malaria, diarrhea and other killer diseases, delivered 250 healthy babies, provided HIV counseling and testing to over 670 expectant mothers and their partners in order to reduce the risk of mother-to-child-transmission of HIV/AIDS, as well as provided a welcoming and peaceful space for teen girls sexual health education and women’s income generating activities to be carried out!

Funds raised will help to improve and expand the life saving maternal and infant health care services carried out at the Shanti Uganda Birth House.

Advance tickets are $15.00 and can be purchased online (with an additional 1.00 service fee) or at Red Cat Records, Zulu Records, or the Shanti Uganda Office at #16-306 Abbott St.
