Florence began her training as a Traditional Birth Attendant (TBA) in 2001, with the NGO SOU in Nakeseke District.
Nambwere Joyce Midwife
Joyce has worked as a midwife at Shanti since 2010 and helped bring Ssanyu’s daughter Honey into this world.
Nakkuba Rachel Midwife
Born and raised in Mengo, Kampala, Rachel is passionate about her work in women’s maternal health.
Lule Florence Midwife
Sister Florence comes to Shanti Uganda with many years in the Maternal Health Care field under her belt. She started by earning her Midwifery Degree in 1970, and in 1975 as a Public Health Nurse.
Gloria Katushabe Midwife
Gloria trained at one of the country’s most prestigious nursing schools – the Jinja School of Nursing.
Nasiwa Cissy Birthing Assistant
Cissy is a Nursing Assistant at Shanti with extensive experience and a love of learning.
Nakawande Sarah Lab Technician
Sarah works as the lab technician at Shanti Uganda and has been doing so since August 2014.
Nabimuli Ritah Musoke Agriculturalist
Born into a family of environmentalists, Ritah has been an agriculturalist almost from birth. Both her parents were enthusiastic gardeners and herbalists; she learned her skills from her father who worked in Forestry in Masaka.
Jamilah Orom Cook
Jamilah has worked for Shanti for 5 years, and lives right next door to our Volunteer House. Jamilah became the house cook at Shanti, as well as our unofficial volunteer mentor.
Kalyowa Fred Field Coordinator
Fred has been working at Shanti since 2009, assisting with the construction of the Birth House. Fred also worked as our backup driver but was hired on full time in January 2014.
Sekajja Kato Groundskeeper
Kato grew up in Bukuma village, and has 3 children. He began work with Shanti Uganda in December of 2009 making bricks for the construction of the Maternity Centre.
Mulagira Mawanda George Night Watchman, Part Time Grounds Keeper
Mulagila has been with Shanti since our days of construction.
Opio Job Odumo Night Watchman
Opio has worked as the night security watchman for Shanti Uganda, and has since December 2010.
