Although Veronica, or ‘Vero’ as the group sometimes calls her, is only able to sign her signature with an inked thumbprint, the 46 yr old widow approaches every opportunity with a dedication that is impressive.
She watches and learns unwaveringly; whether it’s a new pose in a yoga session or a discussion about the challenges of savings. Her life has not been easy; at one time she had a large family of five children, but only two lived to adulthood. Her surviving daughters are now 32 and 28 years old, both married. Vero has been blessed with three grandchildren, 11, 9, and 6 years, that she has taken into her household.
Amazingly, Vero also supports her own mother, a 76 year old matriarch and a testament to strong Ugandan women! However, in Veronica’s words, she “didn’t attend any school because her parents were arrogant, and didn’t pay school fees for girls.” She notes that her brother was educated, but he unfortunately passed away before he was an adult.
GOALS: With her determination evident in all she touches, she dreams to be able to open a small business selling tomatoes and other edible goods by building on the skills she learns from and the money she makes with Shanti.
