Jane Houston has served as the Clinical Director for the Midwifery and Women’s Health programs at Frontier Nursing University since 2015. As a clinician, she has cared for families and babies on four continents over the past 28 years. Jane is passionate about increasing the quality of care particularly in rural, and underserved populations including gender non-conforming persons.
Her midwifery education includes a diploma in Midwifery from the UK, an MSN from the University of Florida and a DNP from UF where her project examined Water Use in Labor. She has published on this and other topics including delayed cord clamping, vaginitis, LGBTQIA+ issues and emergency obstetrical care for nurses. She is in clinical practice at a freestanding birth center in Jacksonville, Florida. She was inducted as a Fellow of ACNM in 2018. She is affiliate chair of North Central Florida ACNM and a member of the ACNM Education Policy section and the Gender Equity Task Force. She is also Board Chair of the Florida School of Traditional Midwifery (FSTM) and a member of AANP, NLN and STTI Honor Society.
